3 people, child rescued at sea

The rescued passengers of banca that were floating in the sea for almost a week.

Four persons including a one year old child and a pregnant woman were rescued off the coast of Puerto Princesa City at 11 in the morning Wednesday after almost a week of floating in the sea.

They were identified as Edmar Ingcong, 33, Nusra Eppat, 19, Lorina Ingcong 33 and a one year old child.

Nusra said that they came from Mapun, Cagayan de Tawi- Tawi and were on their way to Balabac Island when the motor of their banca conked.

“We just waited for someone to rescue us,” she said adding that they were afloat on the open sea for seven days until severe weather conditions caught them.

She also said that in order that their banca will not sink they unloaded all heavy cargoes including the rice and other food items.

Nusra thanked the fishermen Adonis Scala and Rolando Cacafranca who rescued them.

Scala and Cacafranca said the four were very weak when they rescued them at sea.

They were immediately turned-over to the City Social Welfare and Development Office in Brgy. Bagong Silang.

They will be sent home to Balabac Island after their treatment at the Ospital ng Palawan.
